Disoccupato - 1 interventi Gestarsh99 ebbe a dire:
Uno dei più abominevoli collage filmici mai approdati sui grandi schermi (se davvero è approdato...)
Il film, di ignota paternità [...]
Tantissimi comunque restano i dubbi ed i misteri che avvolgono l'intera operazione :
1) Chi si nasconde dietro lo pseudonimo di Antony Weber ?
2) A che anno risale il film statunitense, a lui attribuito,
Cries of ecstasy, blows of death ?
3) In che anno approdò nelle sale italiane
Cries of ecstasy, blows of death col titolo L'urlo in gola ?
Thank you for the excellent study of this obscure movie. My reason for joining your group is to warn you that a NEW DVD-R PRINT exists since last week, published by SWV - Something Weird Video (USA); it is sold as a DVD print and Video Download.
I just saw it as a Video Download. The video player shows a running time just under 85 minutes, but at the 71 mark, the movie's end credits end, the screen goes black, and there's no sound. As if... The 14 minute preamble of images taken from Romero's THE CRAZIES aka La città verrà distrutta all'alba (1973) had been wiped off an original support on videotape. The circa 71 minute is the original movie, Cries Of Ecstasy, Blows Of Death (sic; notice the unusual capitalization) with a few continuity problems, music dissonancies, and editing jumps hinting at so many cuts to lessen the sex and violence content. There's one male full frontal nudity scene, but it is so mild as to go unnoticed by viewers. The sex consists strictly in nudity and softcore, mostly oral sex and fondling, or frotting. Back in 1983-1984, when the film was exported to Italy, some of these may have deemed to be hardcore - but there are no genitals shown in action scenes.
Trying to answer your questionnaire:
1) Leonard Weber is my best guess - against your opinion.
2) According to SWV, 1973; and it figures, given a lapse of ten years period before it could go into international distribution.
3) 1984, as already explained by other contributors to this group.
4) I do not believe this would have gone to TV broadcast, even in Italy. My guess is that some theatres risked to present copies with the «make believe» new intro, leaving the hot scenes uncut. (The version I saw now corresponds pretty much to the Italian so-called hardcore version, just with the two scenes with a priest missing.) At least in the USA and France, some "art houses" did it.
5) Can't say. There aren't any doc footage in SWV DVD.
6) Don't know.
7) 1984, too - at the same time as the version mentioned in #3 above.
8) Ah! Who knows?
9) Someone said in this group that they had seen the film ("hardcore" version) in Italy in the mid-1980's, which is consistent with the 1984 censorship release. The question is... what (C) date has the VideoA edition? 1984 or later?
10) The film has never been shown anywhere else besides the USA (limited release) and Italy. A French discussion of the movie is based on the same VHS edition you have:
http://www.maniaco-deprebis.com/index.php?post/2011/10/20/Sesso-delirio - I have seen references to other French titles as AKA for this film, but those were errors, relating to totally different films.
bye for now
